Below you will find the commands required to change the device name of the switch / router on the HP Procurve A-Series and the HP Procurve E-Series. This s a simple process and requires no downtime of the switch.
Change the System Name of the HP Procurve E Series
This is done with the command below. First go into config mode.
conf t
then enter hostname and then what you would like to call the switch
hostname allenswitch
This is now complete.
Change the System Name of the HP Procurve A Series
This is done with the sysname command.
sysname allenswitch
