A client of mine recently was retiring old Exchange 2013 servers with a new Exchange 2016 DAG, obviously part of this process is removing servers from the DAG and adding them in. This will also apply to Exchange 2010, 2013 and 2016.
While trying to remove the Exchange 2013 servers from this DAG I received the following error.
The servers did not remove correctly from the ECP GUI. To resolve this issue we need to run the following commands in Exchange Powershell.
Lets first check what servers are in the cluster.
Get-ClusterNode
From this we see a list of the servers in our Exchange DAG, locate the hostname of the server you would like to remove. We now need to run the following command to remove this retired or failed server.
Get-ClusterNode -Name “Exchandge server name” | Remove-ClusterNode
You will then be prompted to confirm that you would like this server removed, select “Y” to confirm. Once done run the Get-ClusterNode again to confirm the removal of the node.
